Why Biomass Pellets Are The Future Of Fuel Pellets While wood may get most of the attention when it comes to biomass energy, its important to note that one is only part of the solution and we should not put all our eggs into one basket. The wood pellet industry is built on the premium wood pellet, a grade of fuel which can only be produced from the waste from the timber industry. Well the waste from the timbre industry is just too little to supply us with the amount of fuel we need to fill the gap from moving over from fossil fuels. Therefore we need to look beyond wood to the other resources we can grow to produce fuel. Much of the biomass we can use we already grow and is regarded as waste. Take wheat, barley, rice and corn. All of these crops produce a lot of biomass waste that can be processed into fuel pellets for burning. Some people focus on a 'green energy revolution', where really it is just about using the resources we have more responsibly. Its a choice to be dependant on oil and gas, and biomass, solar, wind and wave can help us to move away from fossil fuels. To be able to use biomass efficiently and easily on a small scale requires the biomass to be dried and compressed. Pellets are a compressed form of the original raw material, in this case biomass. Once in pellet form the biomass has a uniform shape and size, with a greatly increased density and a much lower moisture content. Pellets also flow in a similar fashion to a liquid, and can be easily used in auger systems without the risk of material bridging. We provide education and equipment for processing biomass into pellet with pellet mills and small and large scale pellet plant. Please click the link below to learn more. |
