First we must cover what are the parameters of the process that need to be controlled. Well there are many, a few include particle size, moisture, heat, compression time and feed rate. The particle size of the raw material will be handled before hand by the hammer mill and the moisture content should be reduced sufficiently before hand by drying the raw material. However it is reasonable to expect the pellet mill, even a small pellet mill to offer control over raw material feed rate and moisture addition. Also compression time (how long the material spends in the die) should also be within the abilities of even small pellet mills. Unfortunately for too long the market for small scale equipment has been dominated by cheap imports of the lowest quality products. The poor quality of the products is not only in their design but also in their features, or lack of them to be specific. These judgements are not been made from lack of experience, when we first started our work back in 2006 we owned and experimented with several designs of small flat die pellet mills from China.
