Is One Big Pellet Mil Or Several Smaller Pellet Presses Better? When it comes to setting up a pellet production facility there is a difficult question to answer, one big pellet mill or multiple smaller pellet mills for the capacity required? In terms of cost, several smaller machines may cost a fraction more, however generally multiple mills has more advantages. For instance all pellet mills require a certain amount of maintenance such as changing the die and rollers. If you only have one large press, that means the whole operation will be down while work is been carried out. This financially can be very risky. Say for instance a specialise component on the pellet maker breaks, this could take several weeks to order and fit. If you have a series of mills you can carry out maintenance on one press while the others continue with production. Below you can see a video of one of our ring die pellet makers used in our plants. With a capacity of up to 300 kgs per hour of wood pellets per machine, multiple units can easily be installed to achieve a higher capacity, please watch.
Other benefits of several smaller machines over a single larger press is lowering the financial risks and been more flexible for changes in demand. It is generally better to start small and then grow into demand. This is much easier by purchasing a single small mill and then expanding with more machines in the future. Say demand drops, your operating costs will be much lower with running just a few mills to meet the demand instead of a single very large pellet mill machine.
