Making Wood Pellets In A Pellet Mill From Great Britain

A wood pellet is simply a compressed form of the original raw material, whether that raw material is logs of wood chips or any other source of woody biomass. However, its combustion properties are greatly improved over its raw material, and also costs such as transportation are greatly reduced in pellet form.

Depending on the source of wood you choose to use, the grade of your pellet fuel will be effected. For example if you wish to produce the highest grade and most expensive form of pellet fuel the premium grade pellet you must use only certain types of wood. Specifically you will generally be using pine, spruce or oak sawdust, and sawdust that contains very little bark, if any at all. Bark will increase the ash content of the fuel. However, you can produce a fuel pellet from practically any source of wood, you just have to choose a pellet burner which can use the fuel without complications. However, the use of contaminated wood is not advised, as this could produce dangerous gases. Many other materials can also be processed into fuel pellets, please see below for an example of various biomass pellets. Through compression in a pellet mill, a high density fuel is produced. A high density means an efficient combustion process, which in tern means more heat and less ash. Pellet fuel also contains very little moisture compared to logs for example, reducing moisture is another key point to efficient combustion. Another benefit is reduced transportation costs, as more fuel can be fitted onto a lorry or ship. However, the best way to reduce transportation, is to support local pellet production using local wood and biomass raw materials. This can be the lowest carbon approach and also produce many local jobs in wood pellet production. Click below.
