Small Wood Pellet Plants Need To Be Automated

If you are looking to start a business producing wood pellets, you will be looking at the initial cost of investment into the pellet plant, however operating costs are really where the business will be made or broken. Through our work over the years we have researched and tested various pellet mills and plants from a range of price points. The majority of cheap pellet plants come from China. The reason these pellet plants are so much cheaper is that they are mass produced from cheap materials with cheap labour. This can lead to many quality issues for their customers. However there is also an issue with the design of the pellet plants and their lack of automation. Automation is difficult to do well, it requires a lot of skill to implement correctly into the wood pellet plant. In China there is very little emphasis on trying to develop small automated wood pellet plants. Part of the reason is they currently lack the skills to do so, and also as it would increase the cost of the pellet plant. The Chinese see this increase in cost as more of a negative than the positive attribute of an automated pellet plant. Part of this belief comes from the fact labour in China is very cheap. Therefore in China to produce a small volume of pellets you would just higher a group of cheap labourers. However in the west cheap labour does not exist. Therefore while purchasing a cheap Chinese wood pellet plant may seem like a good idea, the operating costs are going to be very high. All our wood pellet plants, even the smallest plants are highly automated. Though their initial cost maybe more, the operating costs over the life of the pellet plant (which is much greater) will be significantly less. We control all our wood pellet plants through a central control panel that all components are linked to. If there is an issue the claxon will sound to alert the operator to address the issue. This will typically be to load up the fuel bin with more raw material. Our small pellet plants are designed to last as long as possible and be as profitable as possible.
