What Price Will You Get For Your Wood Pellets?

When you are considering making pellets for sale, the first consideration is obviously the price you will get for the wood pellets you produce. There are several factors that effect the price in terms of the grade of pellet, the supply of raw materials, market demand and weather conditions. Just the same as with oil and gas, the market price is obviously going to be running higher in the winter than in the middle of summer. However you obviously want to be producing the pellets in the summer months and then store the pellets ready for sale. Though consumers know they will get a better price in summer, many do not either have the storage at home or they simply forget to buy fuel until they need it. Depending on the type of raw material you have depends on whether you have a premium or standard grade fuel. With premium pellets you will get a better price, however the raw materials are more expensive and could have potential supply issues. The raw material used for premium wood pellets will almost always come from timbre production. Therefore the supply of sawdust depends on there been a strong supply for timbre. This dependence on a second industries waste is not ideal, as your success is only possible with their success with a stable timbre industry. You can look to use other wood wastes, and even purpose grown woody biomass material like willow. However here the issues you face are they it is very difficult to produce a premium grade pellet, and you would have to settle for a standard grade pellet. You will not get a price as high, but also you do have a smaller market in terms of pellet stoves and boilers as many are designed to burn purely premium wood pellets. However many pellet fuel manufacturers forget to market outside the range of pellet stoves and boilers. Remember you do have markets in the horse bedding industry and for standard log stoves and open fires. With the help of a pellet basket, a basket full of pellets can last over an hour and provide more heat than logs with less mess.
